Still waiting to board
Real ups and downs here waiting to get on the ship. I left home 32 days ago - early - because I couldn't really isolate from COVID at home before trying to get on the boat (I love my kids but they have school germs!). Yesterday I watched the ice plane leave the hangar next door, I assume to take a group of researchers to the continent. A group that was in this hotel less than a week, as far as we heard.
We're exactly 2 weeks overdue today to get onboard. And there's a big sailing race in the harbor so we've been pushed back again- embark day is Monday now
Chaotic message I know, but why am I running this group if I'm not going to be honest with you fine folks? Sometimes we get homesick!
- Your question: "Are there yeti crabs where you're going?" No. They've only been seen around hydrothermal vents, where tectonic plates are separating. We're going close to the edge of the Antarctic continent and away from vent sites. Here's a good vent map- yetis live on the Pacific-Antarctic Ridge so we can wave at them as we steam over: https://www.pmel.noaa.gov/eoi/PlumeStudies/global-vents/images/global-vents-map.png

2. My favorite "map" of where yeti crabs live. Why is this on the internet
