To the bridge!

There's a countdown in the tech room now to when we exit the fast internet zone for real. We're currently in a zone with a satellite "switched on" that we thought would be off, and we are about to enter a "millionaires don't hang out here" part of the ocean where everybody has to bring their own internet. Fast internet is expensive for 60 people who aren't paying tourist fares, so we're bringing slow internet instead. I have time to share one last video before we hit the slow zone.

I'm showing you my favorite place on the ship: the bridge. It's quiet and has big windows with windowsills that we can use like a standing desk. It has the best view and the most natural light of anywhere on the ship. There's a catwalk outside that I'll use when the open-ocean transit is over.

The "ice tower" is 3 ladders above the bridge. It has a comfy chair for when marine mammal scientists come onboard and pull long shifts looking for their study subjects. But it's too loud, at least while we're steaming across open ocean. The whole thing vibrates with the engines and the waves.

If y'all get a message from me tomorrow, then we should be able to stay in touch for the rest of the expedition.

🤞 Virginia
